Userlytics – User Testing

Updated on: by Amy Kennedy

Being a tester for Userlytics is a lot of fun!
Userlytics has some well known, high profile clients who are looking for a variety of every day people to test their website from home and help them determine how user friendly it is. Testers are able to do all of the testing online and do not have to download software. When clients are ready for reviews, the tests will be posted onto the Userlytics program. The site is set up as first come first serve and pays $10 for each approved test.

Often when I sign into the program and find a test available I quickly grab it (they do go quick). There is a simple explanation of a task to be completed. You will have 10 minutes to attempt the task given. You will be instructed to speak aloud your thoughts, your confusions, your frustrations…Let the customer know what you are thinking as you are on their site. Once completed you will answer a few questions and submit for approval.

My tests have always been approved in less than 24 hours, usually within a few hours. Userlytics will pay out within 30 days of the test date. Thankfully, my work has always been paid within a few weeks.

Userlytics is a great way to make some extra cash working from home! There have been days I log in and find 10 tests ready to go! If I did not have the distractions in life called kids, I would say I could average more than a few tests a week.  However, I am happy with the couple I complete now.

Userlytics is different from other remote usability sites as they require a webcam while testing. This allows the client to view your reactions to the site. Just remember it is on while you are testing and so don’t do anything silly….like pick your nose!

There are other usability companies that do not use a webcam, such as Usertesting.com and Userfeel.com. However, they have an application process while Userlystics does not. Other credible alternative options, if you are interested, include:

  1. Validately: Validately is another platform that hires testers to provide feedback on digital products. They offer both moderated and unmoderated testing opportunities. Payments are typically higher for longer, moderated tests.

  2. TryMyUI: This is another usability testing platform. Testers are expected to record their screen and voice as they use clients’ websites or applications, and also to fill out a survey after the test.

  3. Userfeel: Userfeel allows you to test websites and apps in different languages. This could be a good option if you’re multilingual. They also provide training to help new testers understand the process.

  4. Test.io: Test.io is a platform where you can get paid to spot bugs in websites and applications. The more bugs you find, the more you can earn. This platform might be a good fit if you have a keen eye for detail.

Anyone can work from home with Userlytics! Just sign up and get started..

I get a general protection error every time the software loads to start a test in Windows Vista 64 bit.

Stinks. =)I am ready. They said IT will try to fix but cannot recreate the problem. I will have to record it with the cam to show them eheheeee
