Work from home jobs all share one very similar requirement.

They all expect you to have a dedicated home office space. Since having children, I have never had a room exclusively for me to work in. I’ve had to get creative and learn how to deal with working in communal spaces. I am currently tucked into a corner of my dining room. However, my previous home office situations have included: my husband’s garage, the living room and inside of an armoire-hutch.

I have learned that there are lots of ways to create work spaces without having a full room all to yourself. Depending on your home- maybe one of these ideas would work for you?

1. Dual Desk with Bookshelf

Small Office Space Solutions wahadventures.com

I love this small home office solution for people who need two work spaces! I can see a space like this being useful in so many ways. From having multiple children who need desk space at the same time to spouses who both work from home.  DIYIdeas have even give instructions for how to make your own dual desk space using a bookshelf! Looks so simple, practical and is a space saver.

2. Closets are a Small Office Space Cure

Convert a closet to your home office space- wahadventures.com

CountryLiving, known for their elegant taste, shared how to turn a closet into a fully functional and inspiring work space. Turning a closet into an office is a great way to create a dedicated home office when you work from home. When work is done- you can close the doors and leave it all behind you.

3. Another Closet Conversion- Simple

Easy Closet Conversion for Small Home Office Spaces- wahadventures.com

Maybe your available closet is smaller than the double door closet above. OffBeatHome.com also gives a tutorial for converting a closet into a home office. This time however, it is less glam and maybe more practical for the average person.

4. Armoire- Small Spaces for Home Offices

Small Space? Use an Armoire to create a home office. wahadventures.com

When I began my work at home career- I was living in a 700 square foot home. We found a cheap armoire style desk from K-Mart and I created a home office space in my living room. It wasn’t easy but it worked. RealSimple.com shared a similar idea as well.

5. Any Corner Will Do

Small Home Office Space in a Corner- WAHAdventures.com

Turn any available corner into a small office space. I love how this one used a window ledge as part of the table support. Not only is that just the most practical thing to do- but it also keeps you from feeling like you are in trouble and stuck in a corner. You may be in a cramped space but the view outside will let you forget it.

My WAH Office Space

My Home Office

Here is my work space. Like I mentioned before, I work in my dining room- which is in the center of my house. As a mom, it is actually an ideal space for me. My kids can be at the table doing homework, running through pulling each other’s hair, or in the kitchen raiding the fridge and I won’t miss a single moment of it.  In fact, I prefer my office space being in the center of the house over being hidden away in a room all alone. I would either rarely work- or really miss my family.

How is your home office set up?

Will you be trying any of these small home office space ideas?

I love your office space! Looks great. I love the ideas above where the desk is built into the closet. My husband and I actually saw some of those pics on Pinterest and decided to have our computer stuff wired in through the closet in the guest bedroom so that one day we can set up something like that for me. It’s so cool how you can just close it off and it looks like a closet and then open it and there’s your office!

I love the closet conversion too. Unfortunately my closets are MUCH needed and I wish they were bigger!

The dual desk with bookshelf is a great idea and would be nice when brainstorming or collaborating with a business partner. Thanks for sharing!

My home office is in a spare bedroom. I totally love the space, sunlight. It’s located so I can look out the window and see the UPS delivery person.

It must be nice to be able to close the door behind you and walk away from work. With the computer sitting in my dining room I cant leave work!

I actually have my own office in my home. It is a “jungle” theme with a lot of plants. I can also pull out my Jack LaLane Rebounder and exercise on that!

I do love the pictures that you included. I love to decorate and collect ideas to do so!

Thanks for the great article.

Thanks TeaJae! The chair was my Christmas gift last year. I believe my husband found it at Office Max. I loooove it! It’s very comfy. My back and bottom used to hurt from sitting too much. But I havent had a problem since getting the new chair.

Setting up a proper office in your home can make you more productive! If you make your home look the part, you can actually perform more efficiently. All the ideas are incredible and very useful…especially that closet conversion one…

Neat ideas for small offices, unfortunately I rent my house and can’t wallpaper or put holes in any walls…lol. Love the site.
