Aside from writing online content and titling, the next best non-phone job-type that work from home seekers are after is Chat based work! I previously discussed G5Live and many people agreed with me that it was simply not worth the time! I told you all then that I would be seeking out some better opportunities for chat based work. Well…today I am delivering! Enjoy 😉

Who is Talk2Rep?

Upon visiting the Talk2Rep website you are immediately greeted by one of those cheesy ladies standing in the corner speaking a sales pitch. Usually when I land on a page with one of those I leave. See, I have some experience actually working the customer service line for several companies well-known for scamming their customers. They ALL had their own talking ad. So, that is a major red flag to me. It is also why I rarely ever took time out to learn more about Talk2Rep. But today I decided to continue looking and I am glad I have!

Talk2Rep handles all types of customer service and sales work for a variety of clients. From Inbound, Outbound, Email and Chat Based work- it seems Talk2Rep covers it all!  Their client base handles government based companies, Retail, Financial, Insurance, Travel and many other areas!

Today’s focus will be on the current (as of today’s posting) opening for a possible wireless support company in their Chat Based department!

Employees or IC?

Talk2Rep hires Independent Contractors. It is a personal preference as to what is better. Depending on your situation- working as an IC or an Employee can be an important factor to consider when looking for work from home. Be sure to understand the difference and how it will affect you before pursuing a job as an IC.

How Much Do Talk2Rep Chat Sales Agents Make?

Chat based sales agents working for Talk2Rep have reported being paid based on commission. However, the current job opening as a sales chat agents shows a pay rate of $13/hour.  *** update! – It is NOT $13/hour but is strictly commissioned based! Many are claiming it is not worth the time! 🙁

Talk2Rep has updated their pay structure due to feedback from agents. They are now paying a base hourly pay of $9-14 an hour. (updated 07/03/23)

How Flexible is the Schedule at Talk2Rep?

The flexibility at Talk2Rep has not been strongly confirmed by anyone but it seems they offer shifts that you can choose from or will be hired into. The same is true for the training. It is done through a set schedule.

While the work, as a chat based (non-phone) worker is ideal for those of us with distracting background noise, such as children. Understand- it does still take a lot of your focus and attention. It may be very difficult to tend to your children while working with Talk2Rep. It would be best if done while another adult is around to give the much needed attention to the children.

What are the Requirements of the Current Talk2Rep Chat Based Sales Agent Openings?

Their recent job ad posting at CareerBuilder lists the following requirements:

  • Proper Grammar a must
  • Prior Sales experience a plus
  • Live Chat experience a plus
  • Sales in wireless products a plus
  • Detail oriented
  • Positive attitude and solid work ethic
  • Ability to multi task
  • Knowledge of cell phone/wireless services
  • Minimum typing requirements 35 WPM with accuracy
  • Hardwired

Does Talk2Rep Hire in My Area?

Talk2Rep hires in the United States only I believe. There is one client that sometimes requires only Florida agents. However, for this Chat Based position, and many others, Talk2Rep is hiring from anywhere within the US.

What Are Others Saying about Talk2Rep?

Reading through online forum boards I am seeing a pretty typical variety of complaints and praises. There was nothing that struck me as a major problem. Several people confirmed payment has always been met and always on time. However, on the negative side it would seem the initial hiring and training procedures are a bit confusing and many are left wondering if they even were actually hired to work with Talk2Rep or not. It did seem that most of those complaints later resolved themselves with a little patience and dedication. Based on my own personal research, I would personally feel comfortable applying for this position.

Hi,
I have been working for t2r for about 4 months and I have to tell you, I love it. The position is based on sales and exit surveys. The good thing about this, 98% of the time when a customer opens the chat, they are already checking out and if they just say I and click out and order you get credit. How easy is that. For the 4 months I have been with them, my pay has been $11.15 for pay period, ,$11.50 for pay period, I have had 1 pay period where I made $9.15 per hour and I had just started. You give them the hours you can work, your window of hours and they will set your schedule. The company is awesome to work for, the training is unpaid but very helpful. Great support team to work with. I couldn’t ask for a better job, so for anyone who is worried that it’s just commission, it is but you only have to average 1 sale an hour and again, the customers are clicking on the chat button because they want to buy 98% of the time. I almost didn’t apply when I first read your post, but i’m so glad I did. Thanks for posting!

Wow! That’s kind of like what I thought it would be like before I applied, then I got the job interview in the morning, so I thought I’d check out the company’s employees to see what they were saying.

After reading all of the negative comments online about people ‘losing’ their pay for shifts, ect, I almost was going to back out of the interview in the morning.

Thank’s so much for your post! It’s really gotten my encouragement up again. Heck, if I was even making a minumum wage at this point, I’d be ecstatic! I guess that’s what happens after a super-long period of unwanted unemployment.

Hope to see your posts at the T2R’s site someday soon. (if I get the offer)

This is a great review of Talk2Rep Miranda. When I first started seeking home based employment, I was actually searching for a chat based job because my son required too much attention. This is a great alternative for those that are seeking a non phone job.

I actually had an interview for talk2rep, but they were only hiring for phone jobs from home and not the chat jobs, which was just in the past couple of months. It did take me a while though to hear back from their recruiting team. I, however, did not want to do the phone job.

I have seen mixed things in the forums. Some said they were paid hourly and some commission. I am a little lost as to what pays what and how…

So I’ve spoke to the Recruiting Agent for Talk2Rep, we actually know some of the same folks, since I grew up in Florida but now live in Ohio…. very nice lady. I work for Arise, Live Ops and ACD Direct. I saw AT&T Chat offered from Arise but the class/start up was $269 which I didn’t have right now. I decided to forego the chat option with AT&T for now with Arise and hope that something else came up.

Talk2Rep also services AT&T chat, that is the position this chat opportunity is for. It is commissioned based. One sale an hour. These are features you are “selling” but the customer is already contacting chat to find out more about it anyway so you are likely to sell something in an hour.

Per the Rep, most chats last about 15 min each. You are expected to eventually handle 3 chats at a time (this is much easier than you think, I worked for Turbo Tax during Tax Season and only did chat).

You will start out with one chat and then they will add two, once you get the hang of it. You will eventually be bumped up to 3 chats at a time, probably at your Leads discretion. You have immediate help/support from Leads via Google IMs.

So basically if you make Zero sales you don’t get paid or if your average ends up being less than 1 sale an hour you do not get paid. So I look at it this way, I know that I can make a minimum of one sale an hour, especially if the average chat is 15 min and I’m required to have 3 chats at a time. So I have a 1 in 12 chance of making one sale… I say the odds are in my favor since again, that is what the customer is contacting chat for… services/features/add ons that they don’t even realize are sales.

I hope to start in the next few weeks and I will let you all know how it goes. But there is no up front cost out of pocket and you are working for a major company. Talk2Rep is growing and branching out but they have serviced AT&T for about a year so they must be doing a pretty good job. I’m always interested in companies that are small and growing, nothing better than being on the ground level to success!

So I didn’t take the job with Talk 2 Rep. I went thru the Q&A sessions for AT&T chat. Two Q&A sessions are required minimum with a max of four. These sessions are held 9am-1pm or 6pm-10pm. They are similar to a class but much more condensed and helpful. These were held on a Thursday and Friday.

The following Monday & Tuesday I was able to do mock chats with the other folks in the Q&A sessions. Basically using the AT&T chat system to get a feel for how the chats would work.

I found out during class the only chats I would be receiving would be for current AT&T customers. I would not receive non AT&T customer chats and would only receive the chats if the customer was prompted to take a chat while browsing the site and offered an option to chat.

It appeared that the agents on were quite busy, most with a minimum of 2 chats going at a time, some with 3.

At this point I still was interested but nervous, since I wasn’t aware I would only be dealing with existing customers.

During this time I received an email asking what my “preferred” hours were and what my “available” hours were. Obviously, I’m available for much more time than I prefer but I was looking for hours in the morning while my children were at school. Working 9am-3pm with maybe a 30 minute or so break during the week days and then working the mandatory 4 hours on Sunday evening.

My first schedule given to me was Wednesday – Sunday working 5 hours each day, except I believe Saturday from like 11 – 5. Not ACCEPTABLE. So I complained a little, they adjusted it more to my liking but I was then informed this would be my PERMANENT schedule. I would have every Monday and Tuesday off but I would have to work every Saturday and Sunday, mostly mid day.

I received a call after complaining again about the hours. The girl who called me was a bit rude and acted as if I should be grateful to have gotten this far….

I explained that being my own boss meant having more control over my schedule and if I was expected to sit in front of my computer 25 hours a week I might as well go back to Arise and get paid whether I made a sale or not and I would also get paid whether I had a chat or not.

We parted friendly and she stated she’d keep me in mind if they had something w/ less hours (my preference is about 10 a week). And if they had chat w/ those hours that were a bit more flexible.

So after some time wasted, I’ve concluded – if you don’t have the start up money to begin working for a company like Arise, T2R is the way to go. Go thru the Q&As and Mock Chats, gain some great sales experience, hopefully you’ll be getting your quotas. (Remember, 25 hours of work means 25 sales or more or ZERO pay). Then depending on how well you do and how much extra time you want to expend searching the website in your free time to know EVERYTHING there is to know about AT&T wireless, use that knowledge and hopefully moola to work for Arise and their AT&T chat.

You will have to pay start up fees and class costs but if you take the knowledge you learned from T2R (where you didn’t invest any funds only time) you will soar and probably get paid much more as a Performance Facilitator or Tier 2 Chat specialist… so it may be worth it if you have the time.

Hope this helps you all and if you have any questions I can answer, be sure to post them here and I’ll do my best!

Thanks again Miranda for this awesome blog that keeps me SUPER informed! 😀

So excited to see your very very helpful comment on here! I am so thankful to you for thinking to come back and let us know how things turned out!

It is unfortunate it did not work out, also unfortunate you must make 25 sales to even earn anything!! I know most of us cant afford to risk working for free, but I do see the potential for the right people. You are great! And thank you so much for following and being active in this WAH community!

So if you make one sale an hour what is your pay?? You only get paid per sale? that sounds crappy. Its the only chat from home job out here that I can find though so I am praying I get it.

I applied with Talk2Rep as a chat based CSR. If the comments above are correct, then Talk2Rep led me on. They sent me a link to their site that stated that you would get paid minimum wage if you sold nothing. Seems like a company to steer clear of. Seems that they are shady.

I’ve been working with Talk2Rep for almost 2 years now as a chat agent..I average around $14.00 an hour. Love the ability to work from home doing chats rather than calls. I felt with Arise that they are kind of scamish in the way they keep taking my money. Talk2Rep has not asked me for any start up money, or class fees. I’ve never had any issues with Talk2Rep- good company.

May 25, 2012 at 11:31 am

I applied to Talk2Rep in Feb. My experience with the time I spent talking to them was not the best. I didn’t have a problem with anyone I talked, they were very nice. Except for the lady in HR. She was rude and acted like she didn’t like her job. I got as far as the mock chat, I waited over a week to find out my results. The training was suppose to start that Monday. I sent an email an hour after that was suppose to start to find out why I hadn’t heard anything prior to the training. The lady in HR replied and said they just received the results 20 minutes before my email and were in the process of letting people know their results. Proceeded to tell me that I was one that passed the mock chat. But was very quick to let me know that she would remove me, because of my email I was obviously not interested anymore. After that, I didn’t want to work for them. Training was suppose to start at 9am that Monday and they didn’t get the results until after that. They were unorganized. If it was the other way around, they would have expected me to have everything done on time. It was very disappointing to me, because I thought I had finally found something to do at home while taking care of my 3 boys and not having to have a quiet room to work on the phone. As I have an 8, 3, and 1 year old. Now I am stressing out trying to figure out how I could possible work from home as a customer service rep and not have distractions while I am working.

I worked for T2R at the start of this year and I will say it was a nice enough company to work for – but the pay is not as easy as people think. While it is true some make $14+ an hour – MOST AGENTS make the minimum which starts at your state’s minimum wage – the 1 sale an hour includes also having to meet a customer satisfaction goal based on customer reviews – which are not reviewed to see if your customer scores are valid (I rarely received low customer scores, I was great with my customer feedback but there were a few times when I had negative complaints due to not being able to give the customer what they wanted.) If you do not meet the quota for your customer satisfaction – you don’t get paid your full payout – so if you made enough sales to make $14+ an hour but you didn’t meet your customer satisfaction quota then you will only make minimum wage. The three chats at one time can become hectic because you have to respond to each person within two minutes – this is as you are researching information to answer their questions, trying to put together your offers to make the sale, and deal with the other two customers and supervisors if you need assistance. I type 70+ words a minute and I am accustomed to working under pressure but the pressure here could sometimes become too much with the typing and staring at the computer screen. My team leads were great, I will say that, but when I became ill and had to go out for a while, I returned to find my job was gone and no one was really interested in helping me get re-hired. By this time I was making $10 an hour with them and my customer service feedback was in the 98% ranking so it was clear I was a great employee…but sales is the name of the game and that’s really all many of these work at home companies are concerned with. This company is much more organized than most but the training can be confusing, supervisors are not always on one accord, I had a supervisor giving me wrong information that almost got me written up once until they realized it was more than one agent doing it – then they fired her. Checks were always on time but for the amount of work you do, it would be nice if they moved to an hourly rate + bonuses to encourage sales…. if you don’t meet quota (and this is averaged out throughout the week, not just counted each day so if you make 20 sales one day but for the rest of the week you only make 1 a day by day 7 you’ve made 26 sales for the week – but that’s going to be divided by the number of hours you work to get your number of sales per hour on average) then you don’t get paid. There were individuals on my team who worked full two week schedules and came to the end of the pay period and did not get paid because the numbers averages out and they were 0.16% short. You have to really have patience to do this job and you need to have a knack for sales. If you do, then this job will be a breeze for you.

Talk2Rep is horrible!! Take my advice and do not waste your time. I attended every training session and had one more remaining. I was unable to attend to the last one due to a personal matter that came up in my life. I made every attempt to contact the trainer to let her know and even downloaded the mobile version of the meeting software. Then the following day I received an email that seemed to have been sent to multiple other contractors because the to address said undisclosed recipients. The email said I did not attend the minimum amount of mock chat sessions and may contract has been terminated. What the heck right? For missing one training day? If they are this strict with training imagine how they are with everything else. I put all of my effort into learning the material and practing on my own. Don’t get sucked into their trap.

February 8, 2013 at 7:29 am

I have worked for talk2rep for about 3 months now. Now, let’s start from the beginning. When I applied it took about a month to initially hear back. You then have to do a typing test, speed test, and a personality test and send them your results. You then get a mock chat interview. Once done with that I hared back in about 2 weeks. Once I heard back I could start my training. They hold 2 training sessions a day so if you can’t make it to one you can take another as well as if you can’t attend one day you can do both sessions on the same day. The training is very informative. Then you start your chats with their chat software so you can see how the live environment will be. They start you off at 1 chat, then move you up to 2, and then 3. Once graduated to the live environment they ask you what hours you prefer and what you are actually available and make your hours based on what is available. I work 9-4 2 days a week, 1-8 on Sunday, and 9-1 one day. Although they do have a 25 hour a week min and max when you start you can take breaks whenever needed. Since I have a 6 month old at home I take 3 15 min breaks on my long days and a 20 min break on my short day. All you have to do is let your support team know when you need a break. As for sales: You have to ave at least .55 orders per hour on average, and a survey rate of at least 50%. HOwever, for the first 30 days if you don’t meet those requirements you still get paid $7.00. Since you are an IC you do not have taxes taken out. I was averaging about 270 every 2 weeks since I had to take days off for my son. With my sales i have to at least get 4 sales on 7 hour days and 3 sales on 4 hour days. That equals out to about 15 sales a week to meet requirements. You also have refresher courses once a month with the entire team to better your skills as well as courses with AT&T reps to ask any questions you may have. They have an awesome support team that is there to help no matter what. Also you do have to respond to the customer within 30 seconds. However, a BIG tip on that is to have them hold for a minute if you need to look information up. Also, keep everything bookmarked. If you have that information bookmarked you can definitely respond faster. They have definitely helped with my hours. Ive had to change them a couple of times since I worked 2 jobs when I started. They have been nothing but great! You work with both new customers and existing customers. They can receive a chat window to speak to you or they have a chat option on the website (which is not mentioned during training). Overall it is a great company. I’ve always gotten paid on time, and if I need help someone is always there ready to assist. I would definitely recommend this job for anyone who wants to work from home but doesn’t want to be stuck on the phone all the time. It does take up a lot of time however, I have a 6 month old full time and a 4 year old every other weekend and I have had no issues. If anybody has any questions you can reach me by e-mail at anytime. The e-mail is [email protected]

Thanks soo much for breaking it down for me, Jamie! It’s certainly something I could get into here at home as I have my elderly mom living with me who is not any trouble at all, however, if something were an emergency, I could be here to call for help (just for my total peace of mind). As for the pay, I am going to be so greatful to have income coming in to put with with our other resources, we could have a much more comfortable lifestyle; I started reading this forum, got excited, then down, then excited, then down, ad nauseum, reading through these posts just out of curiosity to see if I was going to get a blank check at the end of 2 weeks. That would really be the only thing that would hold me back at this point in my life. I guess when you’ve been really scraping by to make ends meet, it makes me see what a blessing this job will be for both my Mom and myself!
By you breaking it down even further, my mind is totally at ease, knowing the money may be a challenge to earn at first, but its money that will help us so much, and I figure the more I work there, the more familiar I’ll get with the products, and the more practice I’ll get handling the typing.
Thank you so much, I feel indebted to you for making it possible for me to get a restful night’s sleep, and a refreshed positive attitude for my interview in the morning!
Best wishes, and ttyl I hope,
Tamara

I have been working there for over a month now, and I must say, I love the job! It’s much easier meeting quota than one would think, and the hours are guaranteed! Every pay period, I make $2 more each payout, so it literally feels like I keep getting raises! The people I work for are so nice and helpful! I am a stay at home mom to a baby with special needs, and this job has just been a blessing because I don’t have to go out, leaving my baby with anyone I don’t feel understands his condition, and boy, do I save on gas money! I read all the negative reviews before, and was nervous to try it thinking it would be hard, but it is the easiest job I have ever done, and meeting quota is a piece of cake! I’m proud to be an employee for this company, and look forward to my future with it!

So I do have an update from the post that I Posted back in February. They have changed the Survey aspect of your pay. That used to be anything below 46% was $0.00 however, they have changed that. Now if you meet 55% on surveys and meet your sales requirement then you get paid what you would for your Orders Per hour. If you are below 55% and meet sales then you get paid $7 an hour. So, that is a great thing they have changed since agents have complained because Sales is not always a very happy job. However, all in all I have been there a year now, and I can say there has never been a week that I have not gotten paid.

I don’t know if it was mentioned already or not, but they charge a $50 fee for background screening.

Sooooo New update! I have been with Talk 2 Rep now for 16 months, I am a supervisor. Yes, there is a $50 background check now, that is due to the overwhelming amount of people we get that come in work 1 day and then leave, which leaves us with hours unfulfilled, which can put a major gap in staffing. As for the pay, we do not have a minimum payout starting at base $9 per hour, then the incentive to make more based on sales and surveys. Yes, $9 an hour is great, however, we always strive to to the best that we can and make as much as possible. You take customers who are both new and current. I have a 1 year old son and working at home with him can definitely be trying at times, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I do highly recommend studying the product knowledge if you are going to do this job. Yes, you have your supervisors there for support and to answer any questions needed, but knowing that product knowledge is definitely key. We are flexible with hours. You are asked what your preferred availability is and what your windows of actual hours available are. Then you are sent a set schedule. This is so we have staffing at all times during the day to ensure chats are getting handled. We are also online from 9am to 12 am EST. If you have any questions, you can definitely e-mail me 😀

Hey Jaime,

I got offered the position yesterday and have been hesitant about paying the fee! Since you work with them is it really worth the $50 investment for a background check? The way I look at it is I will earn it back fairly quickly but still worried! ANY information if you see this between now and 4/14 would be greatly appreciated!!

How do we email Jamie? I applied a couple months ago but did not go through with submitting all the tests due to the position being commission based. Should I apply again or submit the info to the email that was sent to me?

I have just begun training with Talk2Rep and I have to say, I am loving it so far! If anyone has any worries about the $50 background check fee, this is very common among work from home positions. You have to understand that they are trusting you, most of the time, with information that they do not want you telling all your friends and want to make sure that you are someone that they trust without being under their direct watch, among other things they may uncover in a background check. But their training, so far, seems very thorough and I am so excited to start this position! And I want to thank this website because this is how I found out about it! 🙂

How was the mock chat interview? Was it difficult? I am just wondering how it will be if you haven’t been trained on their products yet. How will you know how to answer.

I am starting my training with T2R this Friday and wanted to answer Renee’s question about the chat even though it may be too late for her there may be others that are wondering. You do not have to have product knowledge for the chat interview, in fact the HR representative I interviewed with said I could make up product information. They just want to see your grammar, spelling and selling skills.

Another tip – if you are interested in working with them it may take a little while to hear back after the initial application and testing. I applied in April and am starting in August. 🙂

Thank you Miranda for the great information on his site!

Hello, Everyone! I worked with Talk2rep for over a year now. Main thing you need to know before you even apply are the following:

1. Product Knowledge- You need to be someone who is willing to learn outside of the training environment. Yes, you have POCs to help, but your time will be less stressful there if you know these things yourself. And definitely visit a Sam’s Club, Best Buy, AT&T Store to take a look at the phones offered, so you will be able to sell them. Know how to answer someone asking : Iphone 6 or Note 4?

2. Handling Stupidity/Repetition: No nice way to say this, you need to know how to handle stupid inquiries. In addition, one main thing is customers do not read at all, so you may have the most informative response, but yet, the customer is not reading that response. So be prepared to repeat yourself most of the time.

3. Research: This goes along with product knowledge a bit, but you do need to know how to research on the AT&T Site for some things or even using Google. For ex, I had a cu ask me if AT&T supported rooted phones. I had no clue what “rooted meant” but found an article yourself.

Now, the best thing about this job is it taught me discipline, and I got a much better job offer with another company, because Talk2Rep taught me the value of research, and I was an independent thinker and solution seeker. I didn’t just ask my POC what the answer was, I found it myself.

In short, to be honest, be careful applying to the position. Yes, it is chat based, but you have many people who leave because this is not Facebook chatting , nor will this be a breezy task for those who cannot or won’t do thee above.

Lots of good advice and comments here spanning a number of years. This last comment posted was very helpful.Amanda says February 11, 2015 at 3:51 pm

I have dealt with many people on a personal level for years making it much more difficult when they are upset, have issues you can not remedy immediately and have many questions. Amanda said it best that you need to be well informed, go the extra mile to know as much as possible about the products and services your selling or servicing. You have to keep in mind this is not just a work at home job a but a job where you represent a client and real business.

I’ve just began reviewing some of these legitimate business and talk2rep seems to offer a good opportunity for an aggressive person. It may be overwhelming with 2 to 3 chats at a time but again you can learn from others who do it and get some good tips in how to handle this challenge. The background check fee is not an issue. Every company does them but here because of turnover they ask that you pay. it’s a small investment in yourself.

This is 2016 so things have changed with some companies. Arise had been mentioned I feel obligated to update on them here for the benefit of others. There have far too many negative comments in respect to lack of hours, being terminated, money and cost. You pay hundreds for training, a number of fees, background fee in excess of the true cost. Their systems seem to go down often costing you time, loss of money and termination although you were not at fault. The most recent post about them I found stated they seemed to have lost many companies they once had so there is no hours.

Do your homework and research and hopefully you’ll find what works best for you.
