Of course, it is only appropriate to begin my blog with an introduction. My name is Miranda, I am 26 and have been married to my husband, Jeromy for nearly 7 years. Before having children I was an office manager for a family owned trucking company. When Jeromy and I decided to have a child we planned to find a daycare while I continued my career. Funny, how our only concern at the time was the high cost of daycare.
Of course, once Sara was born in January of 2007, I could not leave her side. Only I knew how to calm her cries. Only I knew her schedule, her likes and dislikes. Only I knew how to care for my baby (so I thought). I knew I could not find a daycare worker who would sing ‘You Are My Sunshine’ just right. Or someone who wouldn’t vomit at her regular spewing diarrhea. (you know, the kind that somehow finds its way up the entire back…nearing the hair line!) I had to find a Plan B!
My boss (mother-in-law) agreed that I could bring my daughter to work with me! I believed I could bring her into an old office trailer, where truck drivers drug mud in and out everyday, all day. Where the phones rang off the hook. Where filing cabinets lined the walls with paperwork and sharp corners. It did not take long for my newborn Sara to learn how to get into everything. She fought for every ounce of my attention. One day she tugged at the phone cord as I tried to direct drivers to their destination, I looked at her and I realized….this was not going to work!!! …On to Plan C….
That is when I began searching desperately for a way to make money from home! I searched and searched. Problem was, I just kept running into scams and marketing schemes…I almost gave up. It seemed like there was nothing out there. But, I am pretty hard headed and driven. My mom always told me I could have whatever I wanted, if I tried hard enough. It is not like me to easily give up. One day I found my way into a forum on MySpace. A girl I had been chatting with for a while told me about a company called ‘West’. I was told they hired people to work from home taking phone calls. I found the website, www.west.com, filled an application and so began my journey working from home!!
Since my finding West in 2008, I have since moved on (had my second daughter, Olivia) and found myself drowning in work at home opportunities. I have learned of the virtual watering holes us work at home mommies hang out in. It is at these places that secrets are revealed, advice is given and jobs are found! I plan to share with you some of my knowledge and I hope to help other mommies who are desperate to be with their family while still making a living.
