|Secret Shopping is FUN!!!|
Mystery shoppers pose as normal customers and perform specific tasks—such as purchasing a product, asking questions, registering complaints or behaving in a certain way – and then provide detailed reports or feedback about their experiences.
Every mystery shop has it’s own instructions and expectations. I like to focus on the eating shops! I like food…especially when it is free! It generally requires you to be able to multi task. You may be reviewing a menu, scoping for cleanliness and making mental notes of names and head count all while timing the server. Usually when I do a dine-in restaurant shop I am only reimbursed for a meal for two. The fast food shops usually pay a little money ($5-$15) plus reimburse for any purchase made.
Of course, there are many other types of shops as well. Grocery stores, retail shops, movie theaters, oil lube services, car washes, cell phone providers, theme parks…nearly every type of business is looking to ensure the best service possible. They are able to do this by hiring mystery shoppers to give a true insight to the customer’s experience.
Mystery shoppers generally cannot make a living from this type of work. But if you enjoy shopping for free or making a little extra cash then Mystery Shopping is for you! I have listed some of my favorite secret shopper sites as well as some other legit ones I know of below.
BE CAREFUL for SCAMS! NEVER ever ever PAY to mystery shop!
Wanted to add some more information for Melissa and anyone else interested in mystery shopping:
Q. Do you choose how often you shop?
A. Yes, for the majority of shops. On most every mystery shopping site I have seen, they list all of the available shops in your area and their due date. You choose which one you want to complete and may have to pass a quick survey before being assigned. None of the companies I know of require a minimum number of shops in a given time.
However, there are some companies that will hire you to do weekly shops at particular places. Usually they are not really mystery shops but more of vendor tasks. For example, I was recently asked if I could go to my local Family Dollar Store weekly to maintain some advertising signs. I believe the pay was $8 per visit per store.
Q. Do you suggest working for more than one company?
A. YES! Shopping for multiple companies allows you to have more choices and it gives you a broad range of types of shops. Also, depending on your area, some shops may have more available on a regular basis than others.
