What Kind of Work at Home Jobs are Offered by Sitel?

Sitel hires home based call center agents from across the United States and around the Globe.  The specific type of phone work involved will depend on the client you are hired to care for. They have major brand-name partners including consumer electronics companies, PC manufacturers, satellite service providers, and mobile communications companies.

Calls are inbound and may involve billing inquiries, account or product inquiries, product or service orders, installation scheduling or technical product troubleshooting.

Depending on the client you are working for, some calls may involve an element of sales- such as offering additional products and services.

Does Sitel Hire on an Employee Basis?

Yes. Working for Sitel means you are an employee, rather than an Independent Contractor.

What is Involved with Training?

Training is paid for and requires a full time schedule availability. Depending on the campaign you are being hired to serve- training can last anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks and require a full 40 hours each week. Training is completed from home.

How Much Does Sitel Pay?

I have read that pay may depend on the client/campaign you are hired to service. Pay may range in the area of $9-11 an hour.  Sitel employees are paid through direct deposit or a total pay card (debit card).

Does Sitel Offer Flexibility with Scheduling?

Although their job description does not verify the scheduling process- I have read from others that you actually create your own schedule- provided it meets the needs of the campaign you hired to service.

Your schedule is fixed. However, if needed, you can submit a request for a change of hours.

What is Required to Work at Sitel?

The following are listed as the qualifications to become a Sitel Employee:

  • Prior customer service experience preferred
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills, including a professional and articulate voice
  • Ability to multi-task in several computer applications at once while holding a conversation with a customer
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced, and at times, hectic environment while maintaining a professional attitude
  • Ability to maintain a quiet work environment without any conflicting responsibilities
  • High school diploma or GED at minimum
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check, credit check, and drug screen
  • Maintain a deep commitment to provide each and every customer with exceptional service

There are also additional equipment requirements that will be required before you can begin working. They include:

  • Hard Wired DSL or Cable Internet (not included: dial-up, satellite or wireless connections)
  • Windows 7 or 8 (Apple/Macintosh is not supported)

Specific requirements for your computer can be found on their site but a diagnostics test will be offered during the application process to ensure your computer meets the requirements.

What Are Others Saying?

Reading through forum posts about Sitel- it is clear there is a mix of opinions. Each agent’s experience may depend on the campaign they are hired for as well as the team of management worked under.

It seems the biggest complaint is trying to get upper management to reply to requests such as shift changes or for support during calls.

I have also read complaints from people who feel there is a lot of micromanaging at Sitel.

Hi! Just wanted to clear this up. Health insurance is available through a reputable insurance company after 90 days, and you will have only one choice until you’ve been there at least 3 years. Specialist visits are $40, and there is a $3k deductible on lab services, surgeries, procedures etc… I have found it very easy to use and understand, though I need a lower deductible in order to afford to take better care of myself. Not sure about which campaigns offer the “making your own schedule” thing, but my campaign does not. They were very evasive about schedules when we were in training and withheld the schedule until we were a week out of training, which was 6 weeks later. Training was 8-5. PTO becomes available after 6 months of employment and when it is available, it will be very difficult to get approved as it is always busy. Must be requested 3 weeks in advance and can’t be used to make up time that was lost for missing work. Most available schedules will require that you work both days of the weekend. The partial weekend schedules are very difficult to get. They may accept schedule change requests with the condition that you go part time. You will have to bid to keep your schedule every 4 months. You will be ranked based on performance and that will determine the likelihood of your obtaining the schedules you bid for. However, even if you’ve ranked pretty well, it won’t help if all the available schedules to bid on won’t work for you. I’ve bid twice. The first time, there was a 4 hour difference in my start time, the second, another 4 hour difference. It has been very difficult and disruptive to me and my family – though it may not be as bad for single people, or those with older children who don’t need them as much. The swing shift is always extremely busy and they never seem to be able to have enough agents to cover it. On the up side, I find that Sitel is much more professional and organized than the other WAH centers I’ve worked for. Also, the project I work for is fairly easy – though you will always have complicated calls and irate callers in any call center. Ultimately, I would say that the only drawback is scheduling. I’ve worked for busier centers and have never had such difficulty using PTO or obtaining a schedule that was during reasonable work hours. I find it surprising that the shift bid process isn’t a huge waste of time and resources for them when they could simply hire for the hours that they need rather than try to hook people in who are desperate for work and then switch them to completely different schedules in the next bid ( a detail that they, of course, leave out during training as we were led to believe that our schedules would be permanent.)

I’ve just started with Sitel, and it seems to be a decent company to work for. I’d just like to shed some light on what’s necessary to get started (because it was such a hassle for me).

First off, if you don’t have a reliable source of transportation, you may want to make arrangements with someone because there is a required drug test and you’d have to have documents notarized.

Also, you might want to have a little change in your pocket in case you don’t have a standalone monitor on hand. I’ve never owned a desktop computer, so I didn’t. They’re inexpensive on sites like Craigslist and you can likely get one from a friend. I know that they send different materials for different campaigns, so you may not need that.

They send most of the equipment you’ll need, but if necessary. make sure that the monitor you get also comes with a VGA cable or you’ll have to buy one (mine was roughly $25). And if your modem is far away from where you’ll set up your home office, you’ll probably need to invest in a really long ethernet cord.

Since I’m just beginning, I can’t critique the company itself, but I hope the information I left can help someone if they decide to apply for this position.:)

I have just accepted a position there and had the drug test and waiting on the background check. According to the recruiter all I will need to work there is a stand alone monitor and broadband internet such as cable or dsl, and that they will send me everything else I will need.

Starting pay was at 9 which is much better than Sykes which was minimum wage.

If you have Sykes post up I will be replying to that as well because people should be aware of a few things before applying there.

Hello,

I just accepted a position at Sitel and will start in August for the Pompano Beach, FL location. Can someone tell me how much will be deducted from my paycheck for Health Insurance, Dental and Vision? Is the Insurance offered by United Health or by another insurance company. This and any additional information will be helpful.

I begin training next week and look forward to this new step in my work career. The will be my second online at home position. It has already proved to be a much better company because I am not just an independent/freelance worker. I will not have to search for times to work because of the set schedule. All the staff members have been very helpful and extra nice. The tech support is the best I have ever talked with. I feel that this position will be a positive experience while providing income for my family. One more thing, the company is paying during the training, at my previous work place we not only did not get paid but we had to pay for the training. Looking forward to my next path work for Sitel.
