Skyword- Write for a Variety of Leading Businesses and Sites

Have you been writing online content? If so, or if you are naturally a talented writer, then Skyword may be something you should add to your work at home job list. I enjoy writing online content. But writing for sites like Textbroker just leaves me with little to showcase and wondering where my hard work ends up. The idea of writing for top brands sounds very rewarding and self-satisfying. Which is why I am working on my writing samples to apply as a Crafts and Activities writer for Bounty (the paper towels) through Skyword.com. (word has it they are currently hiring writers!)

Who is Skyword?

Skyword is a site, like many others, who act as a middle man for writers. Skyword does the work of finding paying clients that are looking for writers to create content for their websites. The writers give the clients what they are looking for in exchange for a fair wage. Skyword has several high-quality clients, including Bounty, Pampers, Daily Glow and more. You can apply for each of the clients they have available. Each one has different topics to cover. For example, if you apply to write for the Bounty website you can choose one or more of their topics, including Arts & Crafts,  Food Safety and  Clean House.

What does Skyword and Gather Have in Common?

Researching Skyword often leads to information about Gather. At first I could not understand what the two had in common. I finally realized they are simply sister companies. Gather is a social networking company that pays for your efforts. They also offer writing opportunities at Gather. I believe you may also often find overlapping of Gather and Skyword. I think they sort of feed off each other and together they are succeeding.

Do You Have to Be an Experienced Writer to Apply for Skyword?

If you do not have experience then you absolutely should have a natural ability to write well. If you are interested in writing then I always suggest starting at Textbroker. After you gain some experience and understanding of what is expected then it is time to apply for companies like Skyword.

What and How Does Skyword Pay?

Skyword pays differently depending on the company you are writing with. Skyword is completely open about the pay range and it is given to you as you sign up. Here is a breakdown of the current rates (as of the date of this post):

  1. Bounty pays $10 per published article and there is a 12-month time of performance pay for page-views as well.
  2. iBoom pays $40 per published article and there is a 1 month time of performance pay for page-views as well.
  3. Daily Glow pays $10 per published article and there is a 12-month time of performance pay for page-views as well.
  4. Gather does not pay per article but rather a 1-month time of performance pay for page-views.
  5. Impermedia does not pay per article but rather a 1-month time of performance pay for page-views.
  6. Pampers pays $10 per published article and there is a 12-month time of performance pay for page-views as well.

A recent newsletter sent out by Skyword announced they will begin making payments twice a month in July, rather than the current once a month payment. Skyword said in their newsletter:

“Beginning in July you will receive payments for the first half of the month on the last business day of each month. We’ll send payments for the second half of the month on the 15th of the next month.”

Skyword pays via PayPal only.

How Can I Write for Top Brands at Skyword?

Writing for Skyword will include choosing a brand you are interested in, I believe you can go back and apply for as many as you like. Applying for Bounty includes sharing my writing background, why I feel qualified for the particular program and why I am qualified. The second part includes giving a writing sample related to the topic I chose. You simply then must wait for a review of your application and Skyword will contact you if qualify! Some of the programs may require a minimum monthly submission, such as Bounty requiring 10 articles a month but they only need to be 200-400 words in length! Seems to be a great opportunity!

Check out their site.

How can I Maximize My Earnings?

To thrive on this platform and maximize your earnings, you can use the following tips:

  1. Choose high-paying assignments: When selecting assignments on Skyword, consider the payment offered for each project. Some assignments may offer higher rates than others based on factors such as complexity, word count, or client budget. Prioritize assignments that offer better compensation to maximize your earnings.

  2. Focus on your expertise: Leverage your expertise and areas of specialization when choosing assignments. By selecting topics that align with your knowledge and experience, you can produce high-quality content more efficiently. This allows you to complete assignments faster and potentially take on more projects, increasing your overall earnings.

  3. Deliver exceptional quality: Consistently delivering high-quality work is crucial to maximize your earnings on Skyword. Clients value well-researched, engaging, and error-free content. By meeting or exceeding client expectations, you can establish a reputation for excellence, potentially leading to more assignments and better-paying opportunities.

  4. Meet deadlines: Timely submission of your work is essential on Skyword. Meeting deadlines demonstrates professionalism and reliability, which can help you build trust with clients. Satisfied clients are more likely to assign you additional work, increasing your earning potential over time.

  5. Build relationships with clients: Cultivating positive relationships with clients can lead to long-term collaborations and recurring assignments. Communicate professionally, respond promptly to messages, and be receptive to feedback. Building strong client relationships increases the likelihood of securing higher-paying projects in the future.

  6. Seek out performance-based opportunities: Some assignments on Skyword may offer performance-based incentives or bonuses tied to specific metrics such as page views, engagement, or conversions. Identifying and pursuing these opportunities can provide additional earning potential. Be sure to understand the terms and requirements of any performance-based assignments before undertaking them.

Hi, they do pay via paypal, when you are creating your account it says “You need a PayPal account to receive Skyword payments.”

I have one contact person, but I’m not sure if she’s my only editor. I got hired about a week ago, so I haven’t had articles approved. Evergreen articles have a list of topics. News articles, I believe, you can write on any subject. News articles are performance based with no up front pay. Evergreen are upfront, but earn residuals for a set amount of time.

Since I haven’t had an article approved yet, I’m being cautious and only writing one a day. I hope they get approved in time for payout next month. I did some searching and Evergreen articles can take weeks to approve.

Great insight! I had read too where some were taking nearly a month to get their articles approved. That is a definite down side to Skyword. Thanks for this information!

Do you know of anyone who has been paid? I’m sure those big brand names would be all over them if it weren’t legit, but I can’t afford to waste the time if I’m not getting paid.

Good info. You can easily make 100’s off of Gather.com every month and you don’t even have to be a Skywriter for Skyword. I’ve personally made almost $10,000 off of that website over the last 3 years and that’s not even putting 100 percent into it. I’ve developed a winning formula for success over the years on that site and you don’t have to be a pro-writer either.

I’ll soon be interviewing one of the Skyword editors that I worked with on Gather, Adam Vavrek. Gather didn’t hold my interest very long because I had advanced too far in my career to find it worthwhile. It’s much more of a revenue-share model than Skyword.

It’ll be interesting to find out if Skyword offers as much support as Gather did. Even if you’re an advanced writer, it’s worth spending a little time on Gather because they teach you a TON about blogging and how to get more traffic for your blog posts. I can’t praise Adam enough for all the support, advice and helpful information he offered while I was on Gather. Although it wasn’t a good long term gig for me, it was a great place to learn more about being an effective blogger!

I’ll drop by and let you know what I find out and be sure to ask him about your unanswered questions (great idea for encouraging interaction btw)!

I’ve been working for Skyword for about 4.5 months or so.
I made $4113 in July.

My first 60 articles made make less than $500 – It’s something you have to ‘figure out’ if you are going to make good money.

The link on this post is to an eBook that tells how people make upwards of $3500 on Skyword.

Hi Miranda,

Thank you for the great overview of Skyword that you have provided for your readers. I would be happy to answer some of the unanswered questions on your post. Please also take a look at my interview with KillFive which goes into more detail about Skyword and what we offer freelancers both established and new to writing articles online. You may access this interview by clicking on my name above. If you have further questions please reach out to me.

– What happens if your article is not accepted by Skyword or their client?
If an article does not meet the content standards established by the program and provided to the writer during training, the article is sent back to the writer for revision. If the revisions are minimal, the editor will make the changes for the writer. The editors will work with the writer on their article as much as they can to comply with standards crafted for each program.

– Do you choose your own article topics or choose from a pool?
For both News and Evergreen articles Skyword provides topics and keywords for writers to claim. News keywords are provided based on current trending topics in the news. Writers creating News articles have the option to come up with their own topics if they prefer. Similarly, writers in certain Evergreen programs have the option to submit a proposal to their program manager requesting permission to write on a particular topic. All Evergreen programs provide keywords for writers to claim.

– Do you have a dedicated editor?
Based on the size of the program there may be several editors reviewing submitted articles. Each editor is trained to provide friendly and helpful feedback to help the writer shape their article to coincide with the standards established for that program.

My best,
Adam Vavrek

Applied about a week ago for the new chronic illness section. Am confident that my writing skills and 41 years plus with a certain medical condition would qualify me. Still have not heard a single thing back. Hopefully soon!

They just posted on Twitter that they were hiring for this position, so let’s hope they are just recruiting and will choose some writers soon.

If you write for Skyword, stay away from their BusinessBee.com client. I wrote several articles for them, which they published under the names of their own staff writers. When I questioned the ethics of this, Skyword said BusinessBee decided not to use me as a “permanent” writer, and as a result, they didn’t have to give me a byline. However, there’s a difference between not having a byline and having someone else’s byline on your articles. Also, I find it strange that out of less than 30 articles on the site, 8 of them are mine. I think BusinessBee is running a scam, but Skyword said they have the right to change the article anyway they see fit, which includes putting someone else’s name on my articles.
