Keep in mind, many big companies actually start off hiring interns with little or no pay at all. If you are able to handle working as an intern for a short amount of time, this is a great way to get your foot in the door with a big professional company and have experience to back you up.

Work in Community Management

Another way to work within social media is to become a community manager. There are many companies that hire remote workings on a regular basis to manage online forums and other communities like Facebook groups, chats and emails. Here is a list of some of the most common companies I think you should check out.

eModeration – One of the biggest global moderating companies working within social media.

ICUC – This company has job postings in social media for remote workers on a fairly regular basis. I have seen positions from health related industries to other professional fields.

Lithium – You may find work at home positions in social media through Lithium’s career page. Lithium builds social software to help businesses engage.

Liveworld – this company always seems to have community managers and network specialists positions open on their career page. They work with some of the biggest companies in the world from Dove to Pfizer.

Metaverse – Moderating company, Metaverse, is a global company that offers moderating and other services. They have most notably worked with the NFL, PBS, Warner Brothers, NBC and Nickelodeon.

Quiip – This australian based company offers work at home positions in social media and community management primarily to Aussies.

Zynga – Most known for their Facebook games and smart phone apps, Zynga has hired many remote based community managers in the past.

Social Media Training for Newbies and Wanna-bes

If you would like to begin a career in social media but would like the education and an official certification to boast on your resume, check out Moderation Gateway. Work in Affiliate Marketing

Becoming an affiliate marketer requires you to be a social network genius and more. However, this is a way some people are earning multi-six-figure annual incomes. This is a huge market, but it does take some serious skill, all of which can be self-taught. It is not uncommon for affiliate marketers to earn 10k+ a month!

There are many ways you can earn a living in social media. As mentioned above, you can be a freelance virtual assistant, work as an employee, become a community manager or even become involved in affiliate marketing.

Additionally, there are ways you can make extra money online in social media by posting or sharing campaigns in exchange for money or rewards. For example, you can earn money pinning to Pinterest at Viralti, tweet on twitter through Sponsored Tweets or sharing on Facebook through MyLikes.

Additionally, companies like Flexjobs post remote based social media positions that are hand screened. This is one company I highly recommend if you are looking for a home based job and want to avoid the common scams or creep companies. Good luck on your journey into social media!
