I recently read an article that discussed the four hottest job industries for 2013 – energy, real estate, health care, and technology. There are a lot of opportunities, but how easy is it to find work from home jobs in these fields? This post will discuss the kinds of work from home jobs that are available in these four hot industries.
Most of the demand in the energy field is for oil and gas extraction jobs, petroleum pump system operators, refinery operators, crude oil transportation, mining support, and oil and gas workers. Unfortunately there appears to be very few opportunities for people to work from home in this field, unless you’re able to find a power company that hires people to take inbound customer service calls from home – I’m not sure if any of these exist though.
[Editors Notes: Maybe something like this commission based job as an Energy Sales Advisor for PLM Partners]
Real Estate –
If you enjoy helping people find homes and helping them through the home-buying process, then you may want to look into becoming a real estate agent. You may not be able to work completely from your home as a real estate agent, because there will be a lot of travel involved, but most real estate agents are considered to be independent workers – they contract with different real estate agencies and they’re paid a portion of the commission earned when the agent sells the property.
Agents also have other responsibilities in addition to selling properties. They’re also responsible for obtaining listings, attending open houses and taking care of clients. They’re also expected to spend some time in the office to meet with customers who work in “off the street.”
Requirements: Real estate brokers and sales agents must be licensed. They must be high school graduates, at least 18 years old and pass a written exam. In addition, most states require candidates who want to apply for the general sales license to complete between 30 and 90 hours of classroom instruction. Candidates who want to obtain a broker’s license must complete between 60 and 90 hours of instruction, plus have 1-3 years of experience selling real estate.
[Editors Notes: there is also a ton of virtual assisting work as well as print and web design work in the real estate industry]
I discussed a few of the work from home opportunities for people in the health care field in a post I wrote in August 2012 called “Work from Home Ideas for People in Different Professions,” but there are several different types of opportunities for people to work from home in the medical or health care fields. A few of the more obvious ones are medical billing and coding and medical transcription. In addition, there are opportunities for nurses to work from home as medical call center agents – medical call center agents perform telephone triage, which basically means consulting patients over the phone to determine the type of care they need. In addition, they also make calls to check on patients.
Requirements: Requirements for these jobs are going to vary from one company to another. Be sure to read any listings you find carefully to make sure you meet the requirements before applying for the job.
[Editors Notes: An additional resource for someone looking to work from home in the healthcare industry is UnitedHealth Group]
There are many opportunities for people to work from home in the technology field. One of the most obvious ones is taking inbound tech support calls for companies. Another opportunity for people to work from home that have technical knowledge is to write about technology.
Requirements: Requirements for these jobs are going to vary from one company to another, but you will of course have to have a computer, and if you’re taking inbound tech support calls, you’ll also probably have to have a landline phone, though some companies have started using systems that use USB headsets to make and receive calls.
These are just a few ideas for ways to work from home in the hottest job industries for 2013. If you work from home in any of these fields, I would love to hear from you!
